New DAZL!™  Family

Introduction: DAZL!™  Family

The DAZL!™  Family consists of ICs, designed for LCD TV backlight units based on either High-Power or Low-Power LEDs The DAZL! architecture is designed to support a full set of advanced features including scanning backlight (D1), zone dimming (D2) and zone dimming with color control per zone (D3).

The DAZL! architecture feature independent ports capable of driving separate LED strings. Each string is controlled by independent circuitry that adjusts string current and PWM for the desired color and intensity. In order to allow high bandwidth of data two external SPI buses that can work independently, or in parallel are used.

Current, output port voltage and temperature are monitored separately for sophisticated control of each LED string. A temperature sensor at each port automatically shuts down the port in the event of excessive thermal stress.

What DAZL! brings

Advanced Backlight features - The advanced features of the DAZL! family enables it to support scanning backlight (D1), zone dimming (D2) and zone dimming with color control per zone (D3). Multiple bus interfaces offer higher bandwidth and the ability to control hundreds of LED strings with a single system controller.

Advanced Power Management - To minimize overall system power dissipation, the DAZL! architecture adjusts output voltage levels based on advance power management algorithm.

Advanced Control of Color & Brightness Uniformity – The DAZL! technology performs color managements and adjusts automatically current mismatches between LED strings to improve color and brightness uniformity.

Fault Detection and Correction – The DAZL! controller constantly monitors the current and voltage of all LED strings at a high sample rate. The high sample rate enables the system to respond quickly to detected and correct faults due to LED opens and/or shorts.

Flexibility and Time to Market - The DAZL architecture is designed to provide significant flexibility to LED based LCD TV backlight manufacturers. LED strings of any color can be connected to any port for a variety of LED string combinations, such as 4R- 4G-4B or 3R-6G-3B LEDs. Identical packages and pin outs allow for similar architecture, design and layout considerations for both low-power and highpower LEDs, reducing development time enabling faster time-to-market for system developers.
